I’ve always been a big fan of auto-racing. In fact my parents took me to my first Grand Prix when I was 2 years old and I have been going ever since. I got into karting about 7 years ago. At that time my father, who is an ex-racer of formula cars, decided to come out of racing retirement and try his hand at karting. Once he discovered that I was interested too he got me involved and sent me to take a kart racing course under the tutelage of Tomy Marcotte (an ex-karting champion driver). As soon as my Dad realized that I was able to run more quickly than him, he stepped back and turned all his attention to helping me make my way up the karting ladder. He has successfully raised significant sponsorship almost every year of our racing program and runs the operation as a business venture.
For the last 3 seasons I have been running in the top elite class which is the I.C.C shifter class. These machines have 6 speeds and are capable of speeds of somewhere around 170 KPH. They are absolute rockets and can accelerate from 0 – 100 KPH in under 3 seconds! You need to be in top physical shape to drive these things and probably slightly insane.
In the 2004 season I finished second to Kevin Lacroix in the Quebec Championship (Championnat du Quebec) and also won the award for the most improved driver of 2004. This honor was particularly satisfying as I was chosen from a group of well over 100 other drivers. Meanwhile Kevin is off racing formula cars in (Formula BMW and Atlantics) and that too is my ultimate goal.
In 2005 I won 2 championships. First the prestigious Florida Winter Tour Championship in the I.C.C Expert Shifter category and then also the I.C.C championship in the Canadian Coupe de l’Est.
This season (2006) I am running in 3 championships: The IRL’s Stars of Karting, the Coupe de l’Est and the Coupe de Montreal when there are no date conflicts.
On the sports side I am also a hockey goalie and play for Verdun. I am also a passionate snow boarder. Basically, I love just about any sport, even golf!!
I am a student starting university and working during the week during the summer. Fortunately my employers are very understanding and allow me to take Fridays off on race weekends.
I would like to thank in particular all my loyal sponsors, Team P.S.L, as well as my Dad and Steve Pinet (my racing engineer and great friend) for their dedicated support of my racing efforts. I would also like to thank all those who are part of the Max Racing organization for their camaraderie, technical and moral support (in particular the Dorais family, the Filiatrault family, the Asselin family, the Laforest family and Thierry and Luc Parpal). Finally, I must mention the name of Tomy Marcotte who, over the years, has been very influential in providing me with all kinds of help including technical and driving support, advice on just about everything, some amazing experiences and I thank him for his continued friendship.
