Montreal, Canada July 17, 2006.

Promising weekend but fate plays its hand.

Québec City played host to a special event held on the grounds of the Quebec Sports Coliseum on an excellent temporary circuit (1.2 kilometers) built just days before the event. Despite the sweltering heat the grandstands were full and they were treated to a fantastic show full of action and incidents. Over 150 drivers signed up to participate in the eight different classes, 25 of which were in the elite ICC shifter class. Even the renowned international star Jan Velez of Puerto Rico flew in and was joined by with such other notable drivers as Philippe Gélinas, Michael Marjaba, Pier-Luc Ouellette and even ex formula 3000 and formula Atantic driver Bertrand Godin. The event was televised and all the top drivers found themselves being interviewed by the media in attendance.

Qualifying and Pre-Final:
Qualifying went pretty much according to plan and Marc qualified 6th with the top 10 drivers being covered by less than a second and only a few thousandths of a second separating 3rd to 7th on the grid.

In the pre-final Marc got squeezed at the start and slipped to 9th but soon was back into 6th. Then during a “tussle” over position between himself and another driver, the rear of the machine became slightly damaged and he slipped back to 8th After adjusting his driving style to compensate for the bizarre handling Marc fought back and on the last lap and reclaimed 7th place by passing the driver who had originally hit him in a bold banzai maneuver. The officials however deemed that the pass had caused the other driver to make contact with the barrier and Marc was penalized one position in spite of lodging an appeal that any contact on his part had been unintentional.

Final:
Starting on the non-pole side of the track is always potentially problematic and such was the case at the start as Marc lost several positions. He soon got things under control and was chasing down the five kart train ahead of him who were fighting over 4th place. For several laps Marc stalked the pack looking for passing opportunities on this very tight and sinuous circuit and then, with a degree of frustration due to the leaders breaking away, he made his move on the entry of a particularly fast chicane. It was a case of 6 into 1 not working and Marc found himself on the curbing and into the tire barrier. That was the end of his race. As the old adage goes: “that’s racing”.

Next race:
There is a two week gap till the team moves to the next event. In the meantime Marc will be testing the new chassis that is going to be available to him for the next Stars of Karting race in Shawano, Wisconsin
