2006 Year End Review.

Due to many commitments the news of Marc’s racing exploits has not been kept up to date as would have been desired. By way of making amends here is a brief recap of the 2006 season.

As many of you know, the focus this year has been on the elite U.S racing series. Shawano, Wisconsin (Aug 4-6) and the round Toronto, Ontario provided further proof of Marc’s consistency all year in the prestigious “Stars of Karting” championship and pulled him up into 18th spot overall (out of 60) in spite of missing one key point scoring opportunities due to injury in the Norman, Oklahoma event. Without this bad luck Marc would have most certainly finished 13th in the overall standings. As mentioned, this is a championship which boasts over 60 of the best drivers from the U.S.A, Canada and South America. Under the circumstances 18th place is a quite a remarkable feat since Marc is only in his second year and has been competing against many drivers who are both more experienced and have competed in this I.C.C championship for many more years. In fact several of the drivers such championship winner Phil Giebler (A1 GP), Bobby Wilson (Indy Lights) have been running in formula cars as well while also competing in the Stars of Karting series. Others former Stars drivers such as Kevin Lacroix, Jonathan Branam and Logan Gomez have become front runners in the Star Mazda series, Graham Rahal finished second in the Formula Atlantic championship. In fact the list of current and former “Stars of Karting” drivers is impressive.

The last two Canadian races also yielded some extremely competitive performances such by the races at Thetford Mines (September 16-17) Marc was battling for a closely fought second place in the championship in the overall standings of the Coupe de l’ Est behind the excellent Philippe Gélinas who also finished second behind Phil Giebler in the Stars Championship! Unfortunately in the final deciding race, due to an overly ambitious move on the part of another competitor, Marc was the innocent victim of contact which pushed him down the field and forced him to battle his way back to have any chance of a podium finish. Even though Marc’s machine was one of the quickest on the track, disappointingly there were not enough laps left and he was unable to claim the 2nd place in the championship that had been within his grasp before the weekend began. Keep in mind that this is one of the championships that Marc won last year so the “pill” was hard to swallow.

Overall this season has been the most competitive and stressful ever, but it also has been one of great satisfaction due particularly to the progress made in the Indy Racing League’s “Stars of Karting” championship. Without doubt Marc has improved his driving yet again this year. A 3rd year in the Stars series would surely bring him podiums as has been the case for others who have embarked in this the most competitive series of the Americas.

What next? Marc has been offered A Star Mazda test in early 2007 (photo shown above). These cars have significant horsepower and are similar to the 2005 Formula Atlantics in terms of horsepower. The jump to Indy or Champ Car from here is very short. Having said that, budget, university education and circumstance will all play a deciding role as to where Marc’s racing journey will lead. Something that is certain though, Marc will be behind the wheel of something again next year. In this season ending report Marc would like to thank all his extremely loyal sponsors for their contributions this year and for being there yet again to “continue the dream”.
