Almost Perfect!
Marc Flood consolidates his championship lead in the Coupe de l’Est series.
Montreal, Canada- August 29, 2005. At this latest round of the Quebec based Coupe de L’Est championship Marc Flood clearly confirmed why last year he was the heir apparent to the championship for 2005.
Only one week after returning from the latest round of the Stars of Karting championship held at Woodbine near Toronto, Marc Flood, in spite of multiple injuries sustained at 2 previous events, totally dominated the ICC shifter class category this past weekend held at Chateau Richer near Quebec City.
Qualifying:
Under the most difficult of circumstances and on a rain soaked track, Flood put his machine on pole by over a second over his closest competitor! A second is considered an eternity at this level of karting where, at the previous race held at Woodbine, the top 24 were covered by less than a second.
Pre-final:
At the start Flood made the perfect start and left his competitors behind for the entire distance. He crossed the line with his next closest rival a whole back straight further behind.
Final:
The track conditions for the final were confusing to say the least. While the rain had let up, the track still had wet patches. The decision to go with slick or rain tires was a difficult one. At the last minute it was decided to put on slicks. Starting from Pole once again, Marc experienced a little too much wheel spin on his side of the damp track and slipped into second place. It appeared that it would not be long before Flood would take over the lead but just then it started raining once more. Since his rival in first place was not in contention for the championship Marc elected to push him into making a mistake rather than risking a chancy passing maneuver in the now damp conditions and therefore not scoring any points. Marc stalked him just a couple of feet behind deciding that, at worst, a solid second place would open up a nice cushion for him in the championship. In the end this is precisely what happened. A comfortable second place and the fastest lap of the race.
Reflecting on his weekend Marc had this to say: “The experience I’ve gained over the winter during the Florida Winter Tour, added especially to my competing in the American “Stars of Karting”, puts a lot less pressure on me when competing in Quebec. The competition here is somewhat less challenging and allows me the luxury to test new equipment and strategies that may have a future application at the more important U.S events. All things being equal, I expect to wrap up this particular championship at the next event in 2 weeks and be ready to focus on the last round of the Stars series being held in Huston, Texas in mid October. ”
Marc will be competing at the next round of the Coupe de l’Est held at the Grand-Mere track on September 10th and 11th.
